New Student Travel Stipend Awards program
Turner Designs is excited to announce we are now granting travel stipend awards to students who present a paper or poster referencing their use of Turner Designs equipment. This opportunity is separate from our instrument donation program which will continue to award AquaFluor Handheld Fluorometer/Turbidimeters biannually in July and December. For program requirements, visit our Research Awards page. |

Liquid Robotics PacX Challenge
On November 17th, 2011, in San Francisco, Liquid Robotics launched four Wave Gliders that will travel the longest distance at sea ever completed by an unmanned marine vehicle. The robots will travel together to Hawaii and then take separate routes across the Pacific, one pair arriving in Japan and the other in Australia. While at sea, the Wave Gliders will be routed across regions never before remotely surveyed and will continuously transmit valuable data on salinity and water temperature, waves, weather, fluorescence, and dissolved oxygen. Each Wave Glider is equipped with a Turner Designs C3 Submersible Fluorometer with 3 sensors: crude oil, chlorophyll, and turbidity. Follow the Wave Gliders' progress and view their data at http://data.liquidr.com. |

Poster Presentation: Fluorometric Integrated Nautical Mapping System (C-FINS)
The basis of the C-FINS package developed by Turner Designs is a C3 Submersible Fluorometer which is used for in situ detection of multiple chemical or biological fluorophores and measurement of physical parameters (turbidity, temperature, depth). Housed in our C-ray tow body and integrated with ArcGIS® 10 software via our add-in module, this package allows users to quickly analyze and easily map real-time data over large areas or distances. >>read more |

Case Study: Estimating dissolved organic carbon concentrations with CDOM measurements on the AquaFluor Handheld Fluorometer
The Cary Institute of Ecosystem Studies is a non-profit, research institute located in Millbrook, NY, where our facility houses over 100 scientists and support staff. One of our work units, the Hubbard Brook Ecosystem Study, is assigned to the USDA Forest Service field laboratory at the Hubbard Brook Experimental Forest (HBEF), in N. Woodstock, New Hampshire. Don Buso, our Manager of Field Research, working in close conjunction with the US Forest Service personnel, is responsible for the longest running, small watershed ecosystem monitoring study in North America (50 years!). The HBEF has been set aside for research on all aspects of ecological study, including ground-breaking work on forestry, water quality, and migratory birds. This is the site where Acid Rain was first identified as an environmental problem and the data from this relatively remote site has been used extensively to formulate National legislative direction regarding environmental pollution, such as the Clean Air Act Amendments of 1990.

Introducing the Enviro-T In-Line Fluorometer
Enviro-T is an accurate, single-channel fluorometer which installs into a plumbing tee for direct in-line measurements. The Enviro-T provides a
4-20mA output signal proportional to the relative concentration of the fluorophore of interest in the sample water. Initially configured to detect chlorophyll a, the Enviro-T can be integrated with data collection systems to provide real-time data for determining relative abundance of algae and assessing algal productivity. The Enviro-T is a rugged,
continuous-sampling device providing maximum performance,
minimal maintenance, and solid state reliability.
